He is survived by: his wife Kathryn "Katie" Gates Thiel; his children, Mary Beth of Colorado Springs, Jana of San Diego and Matt of Bloomington; his siblings, Leslie Thiel (Marsha Thiel) of Mt. Sterling, KY and Marcia Scott (Lyle Scott) of Paola, KS; and his siblings-in-law, Gary Gates (Rebecca Gates) of Harlan, Harold Gates (Roxanne Gates) of Jackson, MO, Peggy Scott (Timothy Scott) of Chatham, IL and Hazel Buren (John Buren) of Macomb, IL. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
