He was predeceased by: his parents, Lester "Chick" Welling and Dorothy Welling (Brueggemann); and his granddaughter Hannah Marie Welling. He is survived by: his wife Barbara (Tyler); his sons, Benjamin "Butch" Welling (Brenda Sowers), Andrew "Andy" Welling and Christopher "Cricket" Welling; his siblings, Marilyn Lobbig, Leo Welling and Allen Welling; his grandchildren, Ryan Jeffrey Welling and Derick Benjamin Welling; and his great grandchild Violet Marie Welling.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Shriners Children's Hospital or the Hope Center in Cottage Hills.
