He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles W. Schmitt and Alice E. Schmitt (Dean). He is survived by: his wife Cheryl A. Wilk; his daughters, Kimberly J. Schmitt (Lawrence Rhyner Jr.) and Elizabeth A. Brechler (Nathaniel); his grandchildren, Ethan, Jackson, Emma, Amelia and Allyson; and his brother Thomas Schmitt (Kate).

Due to Covid-19, a celebration of his life will be significantly delayed, and a date is yet to be determined.
