He was predeceased by: his parent Jean Hunnicutt Gibbs; and his sister-in-law Jolene Gibbs. He is survived by: his wife Bonnie Lewis; his sons, Shawn Gibbs (Dawn) of Smithshire and George W. Gibbs, Jr. (Tonya) of Smithshire; his grandchildren, Addie Conrady (Logan) of Waterloo and Dylan Gibbs of Smithshire; and his brother Bill Gibbs of Rio.

Memorials may be made to the Knox County Humane Society.
