Douglas Collier Obituary

Douglas Dowdle Collier, age 85, of Twin Falls, Idaho, having fulfilled his mortal mission returned to his Heavenly Father on April 24. 2022. Douglas was born to DeFonda Virtue Dowdle and Theodore Collier on June 1, 1936 in Logan, Utah. He was the 4th of seven children. They moved to the Avenues in Salt Lake City when he was a toddler and later to Taylorsville, Utah with enough land where they had a cow and raised several thousand chickens. In high school he got interested in flying and became a pilot at the age of 16.

He served a mission to Brazil. Upon returning, he attended Brigham Young University for two years but just wasn't interested in accounting. He wanted to try something different so he went to Illinois to live with his older brother Robert. He met Karen Mary Komatar at the branch there and they fell in love with each other. They were married February 11, 1966 by his brother who was the Branch President, and three days later they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They raised nine children. His posterity now includes 38 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Four months after their marriage Doug's father died so they moved to Utah to finish his father's contract with the government in Tooele, Utah. He decided to stay in Utah and get his flight instructors license so he could teach others how to fly. He had his vocation in life! Then one of his students asked Doug to come and fly his plane for him. Doug ended up flying a Lear Jet for Eaton Corporation. Then came the recession and was without a job. Then came a heart attack and he had to change his vocation.

He started his own business cleaning banks and expanded to owning a flood/fire restoration business until he retired. After retiring he moved to Twin Falls where he was able to spend full time on being about the Lord's business which he was more than willing to do. He and his wife, Karen went on four missions. He was usually the first one to greet a neighbor who was moving in and the first one to be there when they needed help moving out. He was the unofficial greeter at church. He loved everyone and treated them all the same-with lots of love and acceptance.

He is survived by his favorite and only wife, Karen Mary Komatar Collier, his nine children: Kevin (Terri), Jeffery (Carrie), Melanie, Scott (Kristine), Bonnie (David Gerratt), Ann (Michael Watkins), Spencer (Melea), Emily (Christophor Wilson), Todd (Lindsay). He is also survived by 38 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by two brothers, Grant (Nola), Mark (Sandy), and one sister Mary Alice (David Eldredge). Public viewing is to be held from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Friday, April 29, 2022 at Rosenau Funeral Home at 2826 Addison Avenue East, Twin Falls, Idaho.

Second viewing will be 10:00 am – 10:40 am on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel at 2085 South Temple Drive, Twin Falls, which is behind the Twin Falls Temple. A funeral service in his honor is April 30, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 2085 South Temple Drive, Twin Falls.
