He was predeceased by: his parents, James E. Wise Sr. and Willie Fern Wise; and his sister Wilda Cook of Alabama. He is survived by: his former wife Janice Ann Wright; his wife Jan; his siblings, Wilma Wood, Wanda Nixon of Oklahoma and John Wise of Colorado; his children, Jim (Renee Wise), Tracy Wise of Pensacola and Michele (Ben Nigg); and his grandchildren, Janee and Jimmy Wise.
