He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Robert E. McFarland and Rose Reilly McFarland of Sandpoint; his sister Marie (Molly); his uncle Joe McFarland; his cousin Patrick McFarland; his wife Katie; his children, Mick (Andrea), Heather O'Keefe (Neil), Matt (Maile) and Rob (Chelsea); his grandchildren, Emily, Anna McFarland, Neil, Danny, Abby Rose O'Keefe, Juliet, Sophia McFarland and William McFarland; and his grandfather Matthew Burns. He was also cherished by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
