He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil Knowles and Peggy Knowles; and his brother Bob. He is survived by: his wife Janice Kelly; his daughter Kelly (Jason Thielbahr); his grandchildren, Max and Emma; his son Ryan (Megan); his grandchildren, Aubrey and Drew; his siblings, Mike (Debbie) and Pat Bocian; and his pet Lucky.
Visitation was held on Friday, December 20th 2024 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Services (301 S Olive Ave, Sandpoint, ID 83864). A funeral service was held on Saturday, December 21st 2024 at 12:00 PM at the Sandpoint Middle School (310 S Division Ave, Sandpoint, ID 83864). A reception was held on Saturday, December 21st 2024 at 1:30 PM at the Homestead Barn (380 ODonnell Dr, Dover, ID 83825).
To honor John's memory and his dedication to education, the family has established the John Knowles Memorial Fund. Donations can be made in his name to support future generations of Sandpoint students.
