He was predeceased by: his parents, Antonio Monroy and Dolores Monroy (Martinez); his grandmother Pompoza S. Martinez; his siblings, Antonio Monroy, Alfredo Martinez, Rosa Hernandez and Elida Luna; and his son Israel Monroy.
He is survived by: his wife Lali Gonzales (Oralia); his children, Jose Luis Jr., Veronica, Rosemary, Linda, Ruben, Noemi, David, Maria, Manuelito, Daniel, Lisa, Micaela and Cynthia Jo; and his siblings, Esther Betancourt, Graciela Betancourt (Juan) and Arturo Monroy. He is also survived by his 49 grandchildren, his 63 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
