He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Edwin Foster Bates and Ruth Imogne Sorensen; and his brothers, Peter Bates (Linda) and Larry Bates (Marsha). He is survived by: his wife Sharon; his children, Wendy Welch (Scott), Lance Bates (Katrina), Becky Bates, Shanell Otteson (Rod), Kendra Black (Jared) and Derek Bates (Marcie); and his sister Mary Lou Westover (Gary). He is also survived by 19 grandchildren.
His faith in Jesus Christ helped build the foundation for his family.
