He was predeceased by: his wife Joyce Habing of Teutopolis; and his son Joseph. He is survived by: his parents, Stephen Berchtold and Mary Berchtold; his children, John, Paul, Sr., Mary Josephine (Mary) and Jane Doll (Leon); his grandchildren, Michael, Nicholas, Sr., Mary Cecilia (Theresa), Maria Goretti (Christina) and Mary Lucy (Emily); and his parents-in-law, Jim Knoke, Dennis Habing, Alvin Hammes and Joyce Habing. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
