He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert H. McLaughlin and Avanell J. McLaughlin; and his son Scot. He is survived by: his wife Diana Gaskins; his children, James and Heather Gunter (Joe); and his grandchildren, Andrew and Allison Gunter.
