He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Earl and Doris LaVern Smout; his brother Doran Earl Smout; his daughter-in-law Robyn Smout; and his granddaughter Jessica Blair.
He is survived by: his wife Patsy Laraine Smout; and his children, Laraine Mayhew (Gary), Carolyn Wells (Daniel), David Joseph Smout (Darlene), Diane Blair (Russell), Richard Earl Smout (Robyn) and Brenda Smout Horrocks (Bradley). He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
