He was predeceased by: his father Jerrold Carlson; his stepmother Earline Carlson; his mother Norma Jean Lemire; and his brothers, Truman Romans and Robert "Chris" Carlson.
He is survived by: his former spouses, Debi Payne (Johnson) of Troy and Laura Love; his girlfriend Kelly Johnson; his children, Jeff Carlson (Kim), Whitney Carlson (Michael Stradley) and Haley Haarr (Dave); his grandchildren, Madison, Tyson, Jack, Alora, Parker, Owen and Finley; and his siblings, Bonita "Bonnie", Tawnya, Shandi, Wendell, Clifton, Vernie and Dale. He is also survived by spouses and numerous nieces and nephews.
