Juan C Saculles Obituary

Juan Caoili Saculles, of Meridian, Idaho passed away on February 13, 2022, at the age of 72, after several months of declining health due to cancer. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, he managed his illness with strength and grace, and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. On his final day, he was surrounded by his loving family and extended family embedded in a web of love that he had fostered.

Juan was born in San Felipe, Binalonan Pangasinan Philippines to Esteban and Ernesta Saculles on July 15, 1949. His parent insisted that education always be his priority and so he moved to Baguio City, Philippines and attended the University of Baguio and graduated with a Degree in Accounting. His work ethic and desire to take care of his family led to him enlisting in the United States Coast Guard.

During his military vacation he went back to Baguio City and married the love of his life, Luisa Cimafranca on May 26, 1976. One of his biggest accomplishments was being a father. Being a kind and dependable father to his sons, John and James. He was always there for them through their ups and downs, and taught them to enjoy every moment life has to offer. He also shared with them his positive experiences for the outdoor. He will always be remembered for his selflessness and loving disposition as a family man.

In March 29, 1989 the oil tanker Exxon Valdez struck Prince Williams Sound's Reef and spilled more than 11 million gallons of crude oil. His Coast Guard Unit stationed in Valdez, Alaska had the authority for all activities related to the clean-up. Juan had a major role in the logistics by coordinating the supply and support of the Federal, State and Local response.

He retired as Chief Petty Officer from the Coast Guard honorably discharged after 20 years of service. Through his service he earned numerous achievement medals, commendations, sharpshooter/marksman ribbons, as well as the respect of his fellow peers and those who knew him.

It was his Coast Guard leadership during the Exxon Valdez disaster that was noted with distinction locally that led him to be hired on day one of his retirement from the Coast Guard by Alyeska Pipeline in Valdez, Alaska. He worked as a Technician for 20 years and retired. He moved to Meridian, Idaho to live closer to his son James and family.

He was a giver, supportive and always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a generous person with his time like sharing his skills in carpentry to his extended family and friends. His gentle soul was unselfish for those who needs help. He was genuinely caring and kind.

His military discipline was ingrained to his good deeds that he became extremely detail oriented and a natural problem solver in life. These brought warmth and light to the people that surrounds him.

He enjoyed going to casinos with his wife, siblings, and mom. They would often joke that luck was always on his side because he wins all the time. He loved big family gatherings with singing, going hunting, target shooting, fishing or just reminiscing with them. To know him was to love him.

Juan will receive Military Funeral Honors.
