Edwin U Caron Obituary
Edwin U. Caron Jr., age 86, a resident of Meridian, died from pneumonia on October 2, 2021. He was at home with his family by his side when he passed.
Ed was born in Boise on August 17, 1935, to Edwin U. Caron Sr. and Verna Caron (née Sparks). He was the eldest of two sons.
The family moved to New York City in 1940 when Ed was 4 years old and lived there until returning to Boise in 1943. He attended grammar school, junior high school and high school in Boise and Pocatello graduating from Pocatello High School. Ed played football in high school and was an accomplished skier. He attended Idaho State University initially and graduated from the University of Southern California.
Ed married Margaret J. Watkin a classmate at USC on March 8, 1957. They had four sons while living in Southern California and the family moved to Boise in 1968.
He started his business career in retail menswear sales in Southern California. After moving back to Boise Ed had a successful career in insurance and real estate, spanning more than 50 years. He owned and operated insurance and real estate agencies in Boise for many years. In recent years Ed worked as real estate agent and builders representative with the Woodhouse Group in Eagle. He received many awards and accolades for professional achievement and was widely known in the insurance and real estate industries for his many accomplishments.
Ed married his wife Shirley R. Graham (née Gammill) on December 29, 1989 in his parents’ home in Boise. They lived in the Boise area together for 32 years and enjoyed playing tennis, boating in the San Juan Islands and traveling to Mexico.
Ed followed tennis closely and loved playing the sport well into his senior years. He was also an enthusiastic supporter of the Boise State Broncos. Ed was an avid boater and active member in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for more than 40 years. He served in several Officer positions of increasing responsibility.
Ed was devoted to his family and friends, had a unique sense of humor and was always ready for a good debate.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Marc L. Caron. Ed is survived by his wife Shirley; his three sons Edwin U. Caron III of Meridian, Christopher P. Caron and his wife Masami of Henderson, Nevada, and Daniel R. Caron of Nampa; his stepchildren Trisha R. Graham of Meridian and Mark D. Graham and his wife Jessica of Meridian; his brother Rene H. Caron and nephew Steven R. Caron of Laguna Woods, California; and his grandchildren: Marie K. Walters (née Caron) and her husband Shawn, Marc L. Caron, Michelle K. Caron, MacKenzie L. Caron, Ryan D. Caron, Matthew L. Caron and his wife Emma, Mason L. Caron, and Mikayla R. Graham.
There will be a Catholic ceremony without mass in the Gibson Chapel at Cloverdale Funeral Home on Saturday, 11:00 am, November 20, 2021. The ceremony will include time for family and friends to share their thoughts and memories of Ed.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Ed’s name be made to the St Marks Catholic Church Faith Formation Fund.
