He was predeceased by: his parents, Merril and Edith (Tronness); his brother Kenny Strain (Greta Strain); his daughter Carol Munden; and his granddaughter Amy Nelson.

He is survived by: his wife Greta Powell; his daughters, Julia Wolfe of Phoenix, AZ and Pat Bernard of Libby, MT.; and his grandson Jim Nelson of St. Maries. He is also survived by 9 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.
