He was predeceased by: his father Craig Allen McFarland; and his great-nephew Ryker Allen Larson. He is survived by: his mother Mary Lou McFarland; and his siblings, Dwayne McFarland, Darrell McFarland, Mechelle McFarland and Linda Stringham. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and various aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Dean owned a lot of American Cancer Society t-shirts and took pride in the purple medal he received at a Relay for Life Survivors Breakfast.
