He was predeceased by: his parents, Leon H. Smith and Ethel A. John Smith; and his brothers, Bobbie, Eldon and Thomas.
He is survived by: his former wife Elena Chavez; his wife Erica DeSantis; his children, Leon Smith Jr. (Wilma), Cathy Lenker (Robert), Steve R. Smith (Laura), Patricia Cooley (James) and James E. Smith (Brenda); his siblings, Sharon Morris (Donald) and Dale D. Smith (Teresa); and his sisters-in-law, Eldena Smith and Carolyn Smith. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
