He is survived by: his former wife Patricia Hughes; his wife Patricia Simmons (Hughes) of Wiota, IA; his children, Robert Simmons of Wiota, IA, Ron Simmons (Vicki) of Sheffield, IA, Richard Simmons (Rosemary) of Ankeny, IA, Roger Simmons (Cindy) of Pekin, IL and Robin Scholl (Craig) of Ankeny, IA; his grandchildren, Audrey Simmons, Cole Simmons, Miranda Simmons, Kallie Simmons, Devin Simmons, Nikki Simmons, Cheyanne Scholl, Savanna Scholl and Dakota Scholl; and his son Dave Schwarte.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Simmons family to designate to charities at a later date.
