He was predeceased by: his parents, John G. Engel and Ella Nora Engel (Thede); his former spouse Adella Jane Peterson; his wife Virginia Lee Peterson; his brother Wallace Engel; and his stepson Keith Peterson, Jr..
He is survived by: his children, Kenneth Engel (Schael) of Williamsburg, Nancy Engel of Edina, MN, Dr. Michael Engel (Chris) of Glen Allen, VA, David Engel (Jane) of Marshalltown and Jan Evans (Scott) of Ft. Collins, CO; his grandchildren, Joshua Engel (Colleen), Erica Engel, Vanessa Engel, Jason Engel, Sean Engel, Bradley Evans and Amanda Evans; his great grandchildren, Ailbhe and Cennydd; and his stepdaughter Pamela Thompson (Paul) of Roanoke Ind.
In Lieu of flowers memorial may be given to University of Iowa College of Pharmacy Foundation, Iburg Pouslon VFW Post #8797 or Williamsburg Lions Club.
