He was predeceased by : his parents, Hugo Berninghaus and Malinda Berninghaus (Ruhnke); and his grandparents, William, Amelia Berninghaus, John and Amanda Ruhnke.

He is survived by : his sister Betty Berninghaus of Algona; and his godchildren, Bert Bierstedt of Greensboro and Connie Iglewski of Rochester.
