He was predeceased by: his parents, William Simmons and Eileen Simmons (Orr); his brothers, Tim Simmons and Jim Simmons; and his granddaughter Josie Samson.
He is survived by: his significant other Karen Krumwiede of Whiting, Iowa; his children, Kate Simmons (Tim Pagett) of Logan, Mary Simmons of Logan, Eric Samson (Lisa Myers) of Sioux City and Brooks Krumwiede (Samantha) of Cheyenne, Wyoming; his grandchildren, Aiden Young of Logan, Kacie Lampshire (Hunter) of Commerce City, Ashley Myers of Phoenix, Wesley Myers of Sioux City, Michaela and Max Krumwiede of Cheyenne, Wyoming; his former wife Pamela Glassmeyer of Logan, Iowa; his siblings, Susan De Roy (Robert) of Omaha, Nebraska and John Simmons (Vanessa Hamilton) of Onawa, Iowa; and his nieces and nephews, William Simmons of Onawa, Gabe Simmons of Onawa, Sean Wingfield of Omaha, Nebraska, Brandi Velasco of Onawa, Stacie Simmons of Sioux City and Erin Morris of Omaha, Nebraska. He is also survived by many cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Ron gave the gift of life through organ and tissue donation with the Iowa Donor Network.
