He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Ove Coates and Alta Coates (Meier); his wife Judy Coates; his sister Florence McClean; his children, Renee Gibson (Russell), Amy Whitlock (Dennis), Deana Coates (Laurence) and Jeremy Coates (Jennifer); his son-in-law Rich Coe; his grandchildren, Allison Coe, Jenna Coe, Parker Gibson (Deanne), Graham Gibson (Molly), Spencer Gibson, Sarena Gibson, Sawyer Flynn (Lexie), Lexie Ertz (Michael), Jerald J. Coates, Jerrick Coates and Jeslyn Coates; his brother Kenneth; and his children, Craig Allen and Keri Coe. He was also cherished by 7 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given in support of the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities which he was proud to experience in April 2016.
