He was predeceased by: his parents, Niels Nielsen and Maren Nielsen (Jessen); and his siblings, Margaret Schwenn, Jens Nielsen and Golda Diehl.

He is survived by: his wife Alice Anderson of Westside; his children, Stephanie (John Johnsrud) of Roseville, Calif., Jennifer (Scot Shears) of Valparaiso, Ind. and Mark Nielsen (Terri) of Incline Village, Nev.; his grandchildren, Taylor Nielsen (Kayley), Courtney Garretson, Bradyn Nielsen and Allison Shears; and his great grandchildren, Wyatt Garretson and Melina Nielsen.

In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to St. Anthony Regional Cancer Center.
