He was predeceased by: his parents, DeLoye Emerson and Beula Blanch Thompson (Coombs); his brother Tom Thompson; and his nephew Nathan Thompson. He is survived by: his wife Connie Marie Schutt; his daughters, Heidi Rohde (Joe) of Maynard, Angie Jones (Brian) of Urbana and Sarah Clymer (Billy) of Cedar Rapids; his grandchildren, Caitlyn, Cortney, Cameron Rohde, Gretchen, Bradley, Adelyn, Grady Jones, Anna, Johnny and Lilah Clymer; his sister-in-law Brooke Thompson; and his siblings, DeAnn Schriner of Cedar Rapids, Doug Thompson (Patty) of Glenwood and Gary Thompson (Diane) of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed in his name to St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Readlyn.
