Schmitt and Anna Schmitt (Kuennen); his parents-in-law, Edward L. and Lillian Mikota; his siblings, Adella Langreck (Leo), Irma Bullerman (Leonard), Lucy Dietzenbach (Urban), Rita, Arthur Schmitt (Agnes) and Alex Schmitt (Shirley); and his siblings-in-law, Rosetta Schmitt, Martha Mikota and Eugene Noska.
He is survived by: his wife Norma Jean Mikota; his daughters, Sharon Schmitt of Decorah and Sheila Soppe (Russ Weisskopf) of West Union, Iowa; his grandsons, Travis Soppe (Janelle) of West Union, Iowa and Jeremy Soppe (Kim) of West Union, Iowa; his great grandchildren, Brock, Grant, Shane, Maverick Soppe, Carver and Calvin Soppe; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Jonah, Zaida, Elijah, Lila and Stella Moore; his siblings, Helen Noska of West Union, Iowa and Gerald Schmitt of West Union, Iowa; and his brother-in-law Edward J. Mikota of Ossian.
