He was predeceased by: his parents, George Wellman and Veronica Wellman (Moeller); his wife Ruth E. Ponte; his daughter-in-law Eva; and his siblings, Leonard, Walter, Arnie, Dick Wellman and Laverne Hartley.
He is survived by: his children, Kathleen Hamilton (John) of Smithville, Missouri, Marvin Wellman (Wilma) of West Point and Raymond Wellman of West Point, Iowa; his siblings, Norb Wellman (Geri) of West Point, Iowa and Adelle Stuecker of Saint Paul, Iowa; his grandchildren, Kerry Cooper (Kenny), Christopher Wellman (Cory), Kim Fullenkamp (Mike), Dan Wellman (Kris), Geoffrey Wellmanq (Kristy), Stefan Wellman (Tracy), Andy Hamilton (Amy), Jesse Hamilton (Deidra) and Alexander Hamilton; his great grandchildren, Kole, Kameron, Caleb, Kendall, Cade, Gage, Shaylin, Elek, Evan, Kenzie, Raegan, Braylan, Enslee, Emily, Eliana, Sarah, Luke, Liam, Raelyn, Zander and Jordan; and his great great grandchildren, Izzie, Briana and Hadley. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
A memorial has been established in his memory for St. Judes Children's Research Hospital or Saint Mary's Catholic Church.
