He was predeceased by: his parents, Melburn F. McGinity and Darlene May Saldeen Russell; his siblings, Melburn, Jr. and Gloria; and his stepbrother Phillip Hillman.

He is survived by: his brothers, Dan McGinity (Lisa) of Burlington and Steve McGinity of Danville; and his stepsiblings, June Leibil (David) of Winfield, IA and Don Hillman (Theresa) of Burlington. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Great River Hospice House and the American Cancer Society.
