He was predeceased by: his parents, Huseyin Sasmazer and Binnaz Sasmazer; and his brother Nader. He is survived by: his wife Lynne; his sons, Evren and Nedim (Neddie); his siblings, Yildirim Sasmazer (Sevinc) and Yildiz Menemenci (Mustafa) of Silifke, Turkey; his parents-in-law, Manly and Peg Thornton of Elkhart, Indiana; and his brothers-in-law, Michael Thornton (Rebecca) and Chuck Thornton of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorials may be made to the UI Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, Iowa City Hospice or the West Liberty Fine Arts Booster Association.
