He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Messerschmidt and Mabel Messerschmidt; his daughter Susan; and his siblings, Albert Messerschmidt and Helen Miller.

He is survived by: his wife Janice Cross; his sons, Rick Messerschmidt (Anita) and Bill Messerschmidt (Teresa); and his stepchildren, Jeff Cross (Tina), Scott Cross (Kris) and Jennifer DeCarlo (Dave). He is also survived by four grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.
