He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Mitchell and Benita Mitchell; and his granddaughter Taylor. He is survived by: his wife Sondra Borg of Des Moines, Iowa; his daughters, Ronda (David Kaufman), Marsha (Chris Gunnare) and Michelle (Dick Sapp); and his grandchildren, Lauren Charlton (Brandon) of Grimes, Katie Rose (Wesley) of Urbandale, Jordan, Samantha Kaufman of Highland Park, Jared and Ashley Sapp. He is also survived by twin great-grandsons; three sisters; a brother; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the St. Croix Hospice, located at 1555 SE Delaware Ave, Ankeny, Iowa 50021.
