He is survived by: his parents, Karen Lawson (George) of Ames and Michael Roughton (Rebecca Colton); his brother Geoffrey Roughton of Olathe Kansas; and his stepsisters, Sarah Lawson (Cal) of Des Moines and Katherine Lawson of Golden, Colorado.. He is also survived by aunts, uncles.

“Nick was one of my best friends and it’s taken me awhile to write because it’s still hard to believe he’s gone. He sent me this picture on 10/08. I’m guessing it was a reminder of a better time. His end was tragic but he brought so much joy to our lives. Nick was one of the least judgmental people I knew. He loved unconditionally. He was part of our family and he was always there when I needed a hug. Wishing you peace as you grieve. Nick was a special guy. - Steve G.”
