He is survived by: his children, Matt, Rachel and Lindsey; his wife Susan; his grandchildren, Matthew Bernau (Megan) of Sioux Falls, SD and Rachel Francart (Derek); his great grandchildren, Lukas and Amanda of Rising Sun, MD; his grandchild Lindsey Maher (Sean); his great grandchildren, Caroline and Laiden of Claremont, MN.; and his brothers, Merrill Bernau (Debi) of Emmons, MN, Martin Bernau (Julie) of Alden, MN and Mark Bernau (Cindy Bernau) of Madison, WI.. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not be having a public memorial at this time.
