He was predeceased by: his parents, Philip P. Payne and Beulah J. Myers Payne; and his siblings, Sam, George and Rose.

He is survived by: his wife Carol Ann Payne; his sons, Thaddeus Payne (Julee), Matthew Payne (Kari) and Justin Payne; his siblings, Connie Cavanaugh (Dan), Mary Ann Southworth (Rick), Frank Payne (Cheri), Marty Simonson and Danny Simonson (Melissa); and his sisters-in-law, Mary Payne and Beatrice Diehl. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.
