She was predeceased by: her parents, Peter Bach and Alvina Bach (Puck). She is survived by: her husband Mike; her daughter Emma; her son-in-law Larry Grunenwald-Ries of Madison, Wisconsin; her son Jeff; her daughter-in-law Rhonda Ries of Champaign, Illinois; her grandchildren, Kelsey, McKenna, Jack, Jacob, Sean and Riley; her siblings, Debbie Beck (Harry) of North Carolina, Sandy Pannella of New Jersey and Curt Bach (Reatha) of Iowa; her cousin Margie Kline (Barb Swenson); and her close friend Dwight Zvonik.
Memorials may be made to Michael Ries for a fund to be established in Valerie's memory.
