He is survived by: his wife Margaret Handfelt; his children, James of Cedar Rapids, Iowa., Laura of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. and Sarah Jane (Kyle Ealy) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.; and his grandsons, Aidan and Ian.

Memorials in Jim's memory may be directed to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or West Branch Fire Department.
