He is survived by: his children, Jeremy Bender of Cedar Rapids and Lisa Bender of Portland, Oregon; his siblings, Doug Bender of Missouri, Carl Bender (Pam) of Wellman, Mel Bender (Jan) of Kalona and Pat Bender of Iowa City; and his grandchildren, Cage, Abigail and Kiera.

A general memorial fund has been established.
