He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Montgomery and Emma Montgomery (Mammen); his wife Lois Belle Strain; and his siblings, Harv Montgomery, Elmer Montgomery, Florence Schmidt, Marie Tindall, Berniece Graff and Viola Melande.

He is survived by: his children, Timothy Montgomery (Maureen) of Manchester and Laura Fortune (Andrew) of Webster City; his grandchildren, Stephanie, Lisa, Kellie, David and Megan; his sisters, Eleanor Murphy of Emmetsburg and Margaret Marazek of Eagle Grove; and his sister-in-law Shirley Strain of Fort Dodge. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.

After retirement in 1992, Ray volunteered with RSVP, farmed, worked some construction, traveled with Lois and spoiled his grandchildren.
