He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Schmidt and Minnie Schmidt (Laube); his brother Vern Schmidt; his sisters-in-law, Pat Schmidt and Mary Joan Schmidt; his parents-in-law, Wilbert and Arlene Brase; and his brother-in-law Terry Schrage.
He is survived by: his wife Joyce Brase of Waverly; his daughters, Heidi Abben (Ed) of Waverly and Gretchen Smith (David) of Rifle, Colorado; his granddaughters, Faith of Waverly, Gracie of Waverly, Lizzie of Waverly and Amelia Abben of Waverly; his brother Emil Schmidt of Cedar Falls; and his siblings-in-law, Carolyn Schrage of Shell Rock and Ron Brase of Waverly.
