He was predeceased by: his parents, Edgar Monaghan and Viola Monaghan (Sauerbrei); his son Matt; his stepsons-in-law, Ted Waggoner and Gary Gilbert; and his stepgrandson Joshua Nelson.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Monaghan of Waverly; his sons, Mark Monaghan (Glenda) of Cedar Falls and Kelly Monaghan of Janesville; his sister Mary Hostetler (Roger) of Flagstaff, Arizona; and his stepchildren, Belinda Nelson (Bob Gerard) of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Monica Waggoner of Daytona Beach, Florida, Veronica Gilbert of McCalla, Alabama, Brent Champion (Pam) of Kalispell, Montana and Carla Junker (Jeff) of Ankeny, Iowa. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Denver Sunset Home, Cedar Valley Hospice, or the Dementia Association.
