He was predeceased by: his parents, Rudolph Kohagen and Amanda Kohagen (Milius); and his siblings, Willard, Oscar, Melvin, Edmund, Rudolph Kohagen, Dorlene Kueker, Leona Zander, Margaret Walther, Wilma Raudabaugh and Mildred Ruehs.

He is survived by: his wife Lorraine Kohagen of Waverly, Iowa; his children, Sharon Traetow (Mark) of Denver, Iowa and Steve Kohagen (Penny) of Waverly, Iowa; his grandchildren, Ashley Kohagen, Nathan Traetow, Matthew Traetow and Michael Traetow; his great grandchildren, Whitney, Luke, Jordan, Brayden, Carter and Emry Traetow; and his siblings-in-law, Waldo Ruehs and Marilyn Kohagen. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
