He was predeceased by: his parents, Marvin "Ray" Parkes and Bessie Lee Parkes (Rausch); and his siblings, Marvin Parkes, Darlene Holms and Aurilla Parham.

He is survived by: his wife Joan of Waverly; and his children, Julie Berger of Waverly, Terri Hartzell of Waverly, Lori Shepherd (David) of Waverly and Troy Parkes of Waverly. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
