He was predeceased by: his parents, Leo Ferring and Florence Ferring (Haas); and his brother Msgr. He is survived by: his wife Karen Hanson; his children, Barbara Howe (Mark) of Waukon, Cynthia Ferring of Cedar Rapids, Michael Ferring Waukon (Linda), Lorie Evans (Tracy) of Parnell, James Ferring (Delilah) of Atkins, IA and Christine Ferring (Mark) of Hiawatha; his grandchildren, Justin Howe (Ami), Matt Howe, Emily Spors (Jesse), Jennifer Bennett (Chad), Caleb Ferring (Danielle), Colin Ferring, Callie Ferring, Amber Cross (Daniel), Brandon and Jackson Ferring; his sister Virginia Moore of New Albin; his brother-in-law Robert Hanson (Gloria) of Waukon; his sisters, Rita Mae Ward (Lawrence), Jeanne Bresnahan (Jack) and Cecilia Bublitz (Dale); and his brother-in-law James Moore. He is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, private family services will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. John Moser officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, St. Patrick Catholic School, Veterans Memorial Hospital or Winneshiek Hospice.
