With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Virgil Opfer of Waukon, Iowa, born in Postville, Iowa, who passed away on May 6, 2024 at the age of 91. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
As Virgil departs from this earthly realm, his essence lingers — a whisper on the wind, a ripple on the water — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of life and death. Though Virgil may no longer walk beside us, his spirit lives on in the memories and the legacy Virgil leaves behind.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard Opfer and Viola Opfer (Koehring); his wife Betty Henning; and his sister Lavon (Ralph Renne). He is survived by: his children, Jennie Potter of Canton, GA, Deborah McCabe of Waukon, John Opfer (Jenny) of Waukon and Doug (Tracy) of Tallulah Falls, GA. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
