He was predeceased by: his parents, Hugh, Sr. Sweeney and Louise Sweeney (Troendle); his brothers, James, Hugh Jr. (Rose Mary), George (Norma Jean) and Connie (Helen); and his brother-in-law Florus Brummer.
He is survived by: his former wife Cathy Quandahl; his children, Audrey Lonning (Bob) of Waukon, Amy Sweeney of Waukon and Pete Sweeney (Tara) of Waukon; his grandchildren, Ian Urell (Allison), Nathan Sweeney, Rylee Sweeney-Einck, Lainey Erdmann, Ezra and Elsie Sweeney; his siblings, Betty Brummer of Cedar Rapids, IA, Mary Nagel (Jim) of Waukon and Thomas Sweeney (Linda) of Washington; and his sister-in-law Annie Sweeney of Savanna, IL..
