He was predeceased by: his parents, Jerome Steffen and Lorraine Steffen (Brummer); and his brothers-in-law, Michael Oberhoffer and Kent Frommelt. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Jo Fultz; his sons, Michael Steffen (Jessica) of Texas and David Steffen (Jessica) of Texas; his grandchildren, Kaitlin, Sierra, Jordan, David and Elizabeth; his stepchildren, Rob, Karen and Kevin; and his siblings, Kay Oberhoffer, Sharon Frommelt, Nancy Felton (Michael) and Jerome "Jerry" Steffen (Marge). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
