With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Bernice Thies of Waukon, Iowa, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on September 5, 2024 at the age of 94. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Theodore Geving and Esther Geving (Kolsrud); her husband Leonard; her grandchildren, Meghan Lane Thies (Elizabeth Faith Thies) and Lance Schmitt; and her siblings, Eleanor Kloke (Robert) and James Geving.
She is survived by: her children, Karen Mathis (Cletus), Kathy Mathis (Daniel), James Thies (Marilyn), Kim Thies (Barbara), Mark Thies, Larry Thies (Elaine), Todd Thies and Ronn Thies (Renee); her brother Richard Geving (Marian) of Cody, Wyoming; her cousin LaVonne Hesse of Waukon; and her grandchildren, Jennifer Durham, Sara Schmitt, Kelly Deeney, Amy Byrnes, Alexandra Thies, Stephanie Winegar, Liza DeVillers, Emma, Mallory, Leah, Ella Thies, Jim, Michael, Vaughn Mathis, Eric Mathis, Christopher Thies, TJ Thies, Carter Thies, Andrew, Matthew Thies and Mitchell Thies. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church or Old West Paint Creek Lutheran Church.
