He is survived by: his mother Mary Lou Lampert Schmit of Waterloo; his stepdaughter Stacy Shepherd (Jon) of Irving, TX; his siblings, Peggy Schadle (Tom) of Broken Arrow, OK, Irv Schmit (Nancy) of Des Moines, Sue Baker (Michael) of Sioux City, Bob Schmit of Waterloo, Mike Schmit of Tampa, FL, Patsy Tragord (Emmett) of Evansdale, Jeff "Duff" Schmit of Waterloo and Chris Schmit of Dallas, TX; and his stepgrandsons, Michael Shepherd, Jacob Shepherd and Nick Shepherd. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
