He was predeceased by: his father Gene Shay Sr.. He is survived by: his mother Shirley Rae Soper Shay of Oelwein; his wife Ellen Marie Bast of Waterloo; his siblings, Maurice Gene "Morey" Shay Jr. of Oelwein and Debbie Shirkey (John) of Oelwein; his parents-in-law, Jim and Mary Bast of Waterloo; and his brother-in-law Todd Bast of Grimes. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
